Wilson & Gilkes New Robotic Press Brake – Art to Part in 20 minutes
Wilson & Gilkes showcased the LVD Dyna-Cell robotic press brake at Australian Manufacturing Week 2023, highlighting how automation can speed up sheet metal fabrication for suitable small to medium-sized parts. The system uses CADMAN-SIM software to help generate bending and robot programs quickly, with some parts produced in as little as 20 minutes. The company selected adaptive bending technology to support accurate first bends, consistent bend angles and repeatable quality across production runs. The article also notes Wilson & Gilkes’ Western Sydney base, its 9,000 square metre facility, and its broader precision sheet metal fabrication and assembly services for industrial and OEM applications.

Robotic Press Brake Automation for Faster Sheet Metal Fabrication
At Australian Manufacturing Week (AMW) 2023, Wilson & Gilkes showcased the LVD Dyna-Cell press brake at its manufacturing facility. The robotic bending cell attracted strong interest from visitors, with many capturing the technology in action on mobile phones.
The system automates the bending of small to medium-sized sheet metal parts quickly, efficiently and with high precision.

Why Wilson & Gilkes Selected the LVD Dyna-Cell
Shorter lead times
The Dyna-Cell is designed for rapid programming and setup. In this process, the bending and robot program can be generated in around 10 minutes, followed by approximately 10 minutes for setup and first part production.
For suitable parts, such as a bracket with four bends, process time can be as little as 10 seconds. Powered by LVD’s CADMAN-SIM software, the system can produce a part in 20 minutes or less.
Increased capacity
Automation helps Wilson & Gilkes free up capacity and deploy its skilled team across a broader range of fabrication and assembly processes. This supports continued productivity in a market facing rising material, energy and labour costs.
Today, Wilson & Gilkes continues its proud Australian manufacturing legacy as part of OPIE Manufacturing Group, with access to advanced capabilities including CNC forming, laser cutting, CNC machining, welding and powder coating.

Consistent quality
Wilson & Gilkes selected Easy-Form® Laser adaptive bending to help ensure accurate first bends and consistent bend angles.
For fabricated sheet metal components, this combination of automation and adaptive control supports reliable repeatability across production runs.
Australian Manufacturing Week 2023
AMW Melbourne 2023 highlighted developments in automation, robotics, artificial intelligence and additive manufacturing. The event provided an opportunity to explore new technologies, share ideas and connect with other manufacturers focused on productivity and efficiency.
Industry leaders and policymakers also discussed ways to strengthen Australian manufacturing through collaboration, innovation and investment in capability. Sustainability was another key theme, with exhibitors showcasing approaches that support reduced waste, recycling and more efficient production.
