Wilson & Gilkes has donated workshop equipment to Jenolan Caves Rural Fire Brigade

Wilson & Gilkes proud to assist Jenolan Caves Rural Fire Brigade Station to be rebuilt from the ashes of 2019 fire  

Massive bush fires across Eastern Australia in 2019 captured the world’s attention. The Green Wattle Creek fire tore through the Blue Mountains region dev­as­tat­ing bushland, homes and in­fra­struc­ture.

The Jenolan Caves Rural Fire Brigade was in­stru­men­tal in pro­tect­ing the historic Jenolan Caves House as flames bore down on its doorstep but sadly, their own station couldn’t be saved. The original shed to was burnt to the ground.

Barry Richard, RFS Group Captain, es­tab­lished the Jenolan Caves Rural Fire Brigade in 1979. At that time the volunteer fire­fight­ers worked out of a single bay shed. A lot of the station’s history that goes back many years was sadly destroyed in the Green Wattle Creek fire.

The brigade not only helps protect their own community but have been called on to assist their Chifley/Lithgow District col­leagues to fight large fires in Bathurst, Oberon and the Gospers Mountain fire in 2019.

The station was rebuilt on its former site. The rebuild commenced in July 2021 and was completed in mid 2022. The new station includes three truck bays, a mul­ti­pur­pose room and a mobile phone booster along with improved fa­cil­i­ties for vol­un­teers.

Wilson & Gilkes was proud to be able to donate Boscotek workshop equipment as part of the new station resources. The Boscotek workbench and workshop storage unit is 100% Aus­tralian designed and man­u­fac­tured by Wilson & Gilkes. The Boscotek products will assist in main­te­nance of the brigades’ trucks and fire fighting equipment.

Today, the brigade has 32 active members who are kept busy re­spond­ing to fires, motor vehicle crashes, and sup­port­ing other agencies as well as con­duct­ing vital hazard reduction burns and educating people on bush fire safety.
